Why do we still design in Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks?

I have been thinking about this and after reading this excellent post: Mocking up is hard to do I must ask:

Why do we still design in Photoshop, Illustrator or Fireworks?

Photoshop designs are inflexible, Fireworks is a little better but still updating design is a pain.

Now that adaptive and responsive webdesign is more common it is time we start designing in tools that are just as flexible. This means designing and creating mock-ups in HTML, CSS and Javascript.

This quote from the Mocking up is hard to do post makes the point:

Traditionally, mock-ups are attractive because:
  • A) we’re used to making mock-ups
  • B) supposedly it’s easier to revise a mock-up than CSS
  • C) it’s convenient for getting client approval
But fundamentally this approach is flawed for websites, a situation that’s been greatly amplified by the extremely non-static nature of responsive layouts.

From now on I will use Foundation Framework to create mock-ups and wire-frames. I think this will help web-development later during the project.

What do you all think about this idea? Are you happy with creating mock-ups and wire-frames in Photoshop/Illustrator?
